This Is What $103 Million Looks Like?
I hate to sound like a broken record, but ... I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Dice-K sucks. In the game tonight, he gave up seven runs, five hits, and five walks in just five innings. To date, he has a 5.45 ERA and has walked 15 in 38 innings. That's no ace, ladies and gentlemen. That's not even average. I mean, he walked the first three batters of the game tonight, and then hit a batter. Five of the runs in tonight's game he gave up in the first inning. And it's not like he didn't have the run support tonight, either. Can someone — anyone — tell me what I'm supposed to be excited about here? I promise, I'll lay off the guy when he pitches well. But so far it's clear to me that the Sox were sold overpriced goods.Labels: Red Sox

So what you're really saying is that you're a fair-weather fan, huh?
people like you crack me up: if the yankees signed dice-k, you would complain that the sox front office didn’t try hard enough; when dice-k has a bad outing or two he’s a waste of money...there's no pleasing you , huh?
i think you're the one that sucks.
I've got to pile on as well. I think your opinion would be much different if the order of Dice-K's starts were different. If his rough outings were first and his good outings were recent then you'd be singing a completely different tune.
Remember, even though Matsuzaka has experience, he's still a rookie in the Major Leagues. He's still adjusting to a 5 man rotation and is trying to get a routine down. Even though he goes out there for a few hours before each game throwing, it seems like it still takes him a couple of innings to get warmed up. He's also been having some problems pitching out of the stretch. Do you honestly think that's going to continue over the course of his 6 year contract?
Look at Beckett last year, he had problems with pitch selection and relying on the fastball too often and so far this season he has seemed to learn how to pitch in the AL. Yes, Dice-K might have a rough season this year, but we've got him for six and once he learns how to pitch in the AL and gets used to a 5 man rotation then he'll be a dominating pitcher. Once that happens I'm sure there will be plenty of room for you to jump back on the bandwagon.
if you go through my archives, you'll see that i've been a dice-k hater since the start of the season. this was not a reaction to one or two bad starts. it's a reaction to every single one of his starts. plain and simple, so far the guy's done nothing worth getting excited about. sure, he's got a lot of strikeouts, but clearly the team has a hard time winning when he's on the mound. and in the end, winning is all that matters, isn't it? you don't go to the playoffs if a guy has a lot of strikeouts.
